Panel Discussion:How to get your brand into stores: A Retailer's Perspective
Widely credited with shaping and transforming the luxury retail landscape in the Middle East, Shireen El Khatib is a celebrated retail executive and consultant. As the cofounder and CEO of Marquee General Trading, she manages direct investments in emerging luxury brands, as well as retail and wholesale operations in fashion, jewelry and home. Prior to taking the helm of Marquee, Shireen spent nineteen years at Al Tayer Insignia from 1992 to 2011, starting as a store manager for Bulgari and departing as CEO. She introduced and managed high end fashion, jewelry and home brands such as Gucci, Armani, Bottega Venetta, Boucheron, Bulgari, Fendi Casa, Jimmy Choo, Loro Piana, Ralph Lauren Home, Sergio Rossi, and Saint Laurent. Well-known for her visionary work, Shireen further expanded the brand portfolio to include Pomellato, Asprey, Coach, and Emilio Pucci. She also brought Harvey Nichols to Dubai, the largest outside the UK, as well as the iconic American department store Bloomingdale’s for its first ever international expansion. Her work has served to modernize retailing across the region, garnering her many honors included Time magazine naming her one of the key women revolutionizing luxury globally.
Always a champion of both bringing international brands to audiences in the region, as well as supporting local and regional designers, Shireen has also used her expertise in retailing to mentor and consult with many up and coming brands and established retailers from the Middle East.
Shireen holds a degree in International Business Administration from the American University in Paris. She speaks English, Arabic, French and Italian. An aficionado of what she describes as ‘art in the everyday’, Shireen’s passion for all things creative extends to food, architecture, interiors, photography and fashion.
