Butheina Kazim


Butheina Kazim is the co-founder of Cinema Akil, an upcoming Dubai-based independent cinema set to open at the end of 2015. She was a Fulbright scholar of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University (NYU) in New York from 2011-2013. Kazim has worked as a project manager in television and radio stations in the UAE and has contributed to publications including Al Jazeera, Gulf News, Jadaliyya and the Art Dubai blog. Kazim has been involved in programming several film series including Abu Dhabi Film Festival at The Pavilion Downtown Dubai, Cinema Akil Pop Up at the Third Line and Cinema Akil at Market Outside the Box. She is also the producer of short documentary film ‘Letters to Palestine’ which won the Special Jury Prize at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2010 and has been screened in festivals in Argentina, Spain, Palestine and Canada. Kazim recently completed the Goethe Institut Cultural Management Program for the Arab World which took place in Berlin in 2014.
